Concerts and events with the premiertone artists
Which concerts are going to take place during the upcoming week? At least in Stuttgart, friends of the viola will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy themselves: On November 19th, Andra Darzins appears with the Gremonda Trio in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen where she will be interpreting works by Brower and Piazzolla. Also on November 19th (at 11 am - it is therefore possible to visit both concerts!), Nils Mönkemeyer interprets Bartóks Viola Concerto with the Staatsorchester Stuttgart.
In Vienna, you can listen to several premiertone artists in a concert on November 13th: The Hugo Wolf Quartet and the other members of the Alban Berg Ensemble Wien perform with bassoonist Sophie Dartigalongue and trumpeter Lorenz Raab. There are works by Mozart, Hersch, Wheeler and Martinů on their program.
The percussion duo DoubleBeats is going to give a concert in the Schlosskirche Schöneich on November 18th. Kateryna Titova has been invited to the Borromaeum Freiburg for a performance on November 17th, Passo Avanti appears in Ismaning on November 17th and Elena Gurevich plays in a "lively music theatre evening" with the Trio Cantabile on November 19th. Music theatre is also on the program in Erfurt where Ilia Papandreou sings the title role in two more performances of "Medea" at the Theater Erfurt on November 15th and 17th.
Esther Saladin and her Améi Quartet interpret works by Rebecca Clarke and - of course - Paul Hindemith himself at the Hindemith Institut in Frankfurt on November 19th, the title of the concert is "Exile in America". Compositions by Stravinsky and Brahms can be heard on the same day in St. Emilion: Katia Skanavi gives a recital with violinist Liana Gourdija at the festival "Les Grandes Heures de St. Emilion".
Joseph-Maurice Weder plays in even two concerts this week: He takes part in a "Classic meets Jazz" concert at the Wolfsberg Classics on November 17th and appears in Solothurn with the Berliner Camerata and Heidi Schmid (violin) on November 19th. Joanna Sachryn is another musician with several appearances during the next days: She interprets Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor with the Philharmonisches Orchester Regensburg on November 13th and 16th. Additionally, she plays Faurés Elegy for Cello and Orchestra in Burscheid on November 19th.
Finally, let's have a look at the (far away) foreign countries: Jonian-Ilias Kadesha and Nicholas Rimmer give a joined recital in Tirana on November 18th. Jonian-Ilias Kadesha also appears with the Albanian Radio Symphony Orchestra on November 17th. László Fassang performs with the Ávéd János Quartet in Budapest on November 14th; additional concerts with him take place in Hajdúböszörmény on November 15th and at the müpa Budapest on November 16th. Sophia Jaffé is on a concert tour with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra: She interprets Khachaturian's Violin Concerto op. 46 in Zaragoza on November 13th and Oviedo on November 15th and Glazunov's Violin Concerto op. 82 in Santander on November 16th. Daniel Raiskin conducts the Slovenia Symphony Orchestra in Ljubljana on November 16th.
Competitions & masterclasses
Thorsten Johanns gives a masterclass at the Folkwang Universität Essen on November 17th and 18th. And for all spontaneous cellists, we point out one more time the expiring deadlines of the Lutosławski Competition (November 15th) and the TONALi Competition (November 20th).
