Concerts and events

It's nearly Christmas, and we have decided to take a little break from the previews over the holidays. For this reason, we have already assembled all concerts and events until January 8th in this preview - among them, of course, lots of Christmas and New Year's Concerts but also many other performances worth listening to.

We begin with Sunhae Im: Together with the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich and Andrés Orozco-Estrada, she performs Mahler's Symphony No. 8 on December 18th (St. Pölten), 19th and 20th (Vienna). On December 21st, Kateryna Titova gives a concert at the PianoGalerie Berlin with Edgar Wiersocki and Marianna Shirinyan continues her concert tour with Het Gelders Orkest: Concerts take place on December 20th (Nijmegen), 21st (Doetinchem), 22nd (Zutphen) and 26th (Arnhem), each time with Grieg's Piano Concerto on the program.

Daniel Raiskin takes part in two completely "Christmassy" concerts with the Jenaer Philharmonie: On December 25th and 26th, he conducts among others the "Christmas Overture" by Otto Nicolai, the suite "Christmas Eve" by Rimski-Korsakov and excerpts from "The Snowman" by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Between the years, you can also listen to two solo recitals of Jasmin-Isabel Kühne: on December 26th in Wolfsburg and on December 29th in Ehmen.

Gerhard Siegel has been invited to the Metropolitan Opera in New York and slips into the role of the evil Witch in several performances of Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel" (December 18th, 22nd, 26th, 28th and 30th; January 1st and 6th). Hermann Bäumer conducts a performance of "Peter and the Wulf" in Ingelheim on December 18th and also a New Year's Concert with the Staatskapelle Halle on December 31st.

Further New Year's Concerts with the premiertone artists take place in Leverkusen, Berlin, Bochum, Crailsheim and Fürth: In Leverkusen, Daniel Finkernagel presents a "Soirée royale" with the Bayer-Philharmoniker on December 31st and January 1st - Hardy Rittner is the soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 26 in these concerts! The Berliner Philharmoniker with Michael Hasel play works by Dvořák, Strauss, Stravinsky, Bernstein and Shostakovich on December 29th, 30th and 31st (on December 31st, you can listen to the live stream here), Steven Sloane conducts a total of five concerts with the Bochumer Symphoniker, Avi Avital and Ksenija Sidorova on December 31st and January 1st and 2nd. Finally, Passo Avanti gives concerts in Crailsheim (December 31st) and Fürth (January 5th).

The new year starts eventful for Clemens Schuldt: He has been invited to the Cartagena Festival with the Münchner Kammerorchester and conducts, among others, the opening concert on January 5th. Elena Gurevich gives a recital with the title "klassik meets film" also on January 5th, and Jonian-Ilias Kadesha performs with his Trio Kadesha-Plath-Müller in Warfleth on January 7th. Finally, Peter Donohoe plays works by Gershwin in Philadelphia on January 5th.

Competitions and masterclasses

Thorsten Johanns gives a masterclass in Antwerp on December 18th, and Judith Ermert invites to the class recital of her cello class in Gent on December 20th.

We would also like to point out the deadline for applications for the International Chamber Music Competition which takes place in March 2018 in Pinerolo and Turin with Pavel Gililov and other renowned musicians in the jury. Ensembles in different formations can apply until January 14th, 2018.
