Concerts and events

This week, our event overview starts in Dresden: On May 7, Philipp Zeller will perform as a soloist with the Dresdner Staatskapelle conducted by Carlo Goldstein, where he will play Weber's Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra in F Major, Op 75. On May 12, the bassoonist will travel to the German Mozart Festival in Augsburg, where he will perform the Schubert Octet with Sarah Christian and Maximilian Hornung, among others.

Meanwhile, pianist Kateryna Titova will be guesting in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, where she will perform Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Dnepropetrovsk Symphony Orchestra on May 10.

Diana Tishchenko has a busy schedule this week: she is giving three concerts as part of the "Chamber Music Connects the World" event series at the Kronberg Academy. On May 7, she plays George Enescu's String Octet in C major, Op 7, with Steven Isserlis, Christian Tetzlaff and others. On May 9, the musician participates in Gideon Kremer's "Last Words" project, which, in collaboration with Victor Kissine, is based on the scores of Joseph Haydn's Quartet for Strings, op. 51 Hob XX: 2 "Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze" and Dmitri Shostakovich. Finally, on May 10, Tishchenko will play Luigi Boccherini's String Quintet in D minor, op. 4 G 280. Nils Mönkemeyer will perform two concerts in Schaan (Liechtenstein) with the Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein under Stefan Sanderling and Veronika Eberle on violin on 8th and 9th of May. Judith Ermert and Jens Peter Maintz are participating in exciting contests to promote young talents this week: Maintz will perform as a juror at the Prague Spring International Music Competition on May 7. Ermert is a jury member at the International Cello Competition "Prix Edmond Baert" in Brussels.

Many exciting events are also held by the Ensembles. The Trio Gaspard, with Nicholas Rimmer, Vashti Hunter and Jonian-Ilias Kadesha, will start their China tour on May 7. Also in Asia is the Novus String Quartet, which will perform Mozart's String Quartet B-Dur KV 458 "Jagdquartett" at the South Korean GYEONGGI CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL on May 13. The quartet Passo Avanti will perform at the Schwarzwald Musikfestival in St. Blasien on May 10. The Kuss Quartet will recite the Beethoven-cycle II in Berlin on May 11. The String Quartet op. 18 No. 1 in F major, the String Quartet op. 135 in F major and the String Quartet op. 59 No. 2 in E minor will be performed in the Piano Salon Christophori. The ensemble's first show in Switzerland will take place on 13th of May: The Kuss Quartet plays Theodor Kirchner's work "The beautiful eyes of spring night" in Zurich, as well as works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

On May 9, Reinhard Goebel will conduct the Musikkollegium Winterthur in the Stadthaus Winterthur. They will interpret the six Brandenburg Concertos by Bach, BWV 1046-1051. Daniel Raiskin will perform at the Concert Hall in Skopje, Macedonia, on May 10. Under his direction, the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Nielsen's Overture to "Masquerade", Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op 16, Turnia's La procesión del Rocio, op 9 as well as Ravel's Rhapsodie espagnol. Clemens Schuldt will be giving a concert in Toulouse this week, where he will perform works by Schumann, Prokofieff and Beethoven on the 12th of May with the Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse.

Competitions and master classes

On the 7th of May the deadline for the competitions offered by the Musical Association ClassicAllMusic, the 16th International Competition "Luigi Zanuccoli" for Young Musicians, the International Competition for VIOLIN and the International Competition for CHAMBER MUSIC will end. Applicants should hurry now. Composers can register for the Princess Astrid International Music Competition, which takes place in Norway in September, until 10 May.
