Preview: May 28 - June 3, 2018

This week, we are looking forward to exciting concerts and master classes of our premieretone artists. In addition, you can find the application deadlines of some competitions at the end of this blog entry.

Concerts and events

Already on Monday there will be several interesting concerts. In Lisbon, pianist Carlota Amado gives a four-hand piano duo recital with Tonja Čuić with works by Schubert, Mozkowski and Brahms. Nicholas Rimmer will be performing at the final of the singing competition of the Hamel Foundation at the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover on June 1. Organist László Fassang gives a concert in Frankfurt on Sunday, June 3.

Oren Shevlin is going to start the week with a concert in Bonn: on May 28, the musician will perform works by Schumann, Grieg, Piazzolla and Brahms under the motto "Romantik Plus". Jens Peter Maintz will give a total of three concerts from the 1st to the 3rd of June. Together with scholarship holders of the Villa Musica, he gives guest performances in Dannenfeld, Niederzissen and St. Goarshausen. They will be performing works by Beethoven, Weinberg and Mozart. From May 31 on, Korbinian Altenberger and Jiayi Shi will be performing Ludwig van Beethoven's ten sonatas for piano and violin within one week in Los Angeles. Violist Yulia Deyneka, Emmanuel Pahud and Aline Khuori will perform Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp on June 3 in the Boulez Hall in Berlin.

The percussion duo DoubleBeats will be participating in an Education Project on Monday as part of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Rostock. For Johanna Dömötör, the week also begins on May 28 with an institute concert of the woodwinds at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz. Flutist Michael Hasel will play a total of four concerts in London and Vienna this week with the Berliner Philharmoniker under the conduction of Sir Simon Rattle.

Daniel Raiskin will conduct the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra at the Grand Hall of the Kolarac Foundation in Belgrade on June 1. Soloists include Vadim Gluzman (violin) and Evgenija Jeremic (soprano). Reinhard Goebel will be performing in Bern this week, where on June 2 he will give a concert with the Bern Chamber Orchestra and violinist Mirijam Contzen. Works by Mozart are played.

The opera stage will also feature exciting productions: Gerhard Siegel will be seen and heard on the 29th of May in Wagner's “Das Rheingold” in Odense. On June 2, he will play the role of Mime in the opera "Siegfried" in Machester. Ilia Papandreou will again perform this week in the role of Princess Jaroslawna in the production of Borodin's opera "Fürst Igor" at the Anhalt Theater in Dessau. On June 2, the stage work will be performed. On the same day, Hansung Yoo will be back on stage: In Wagner's "Tristan & Isolde" at the Staatstheater Kassel he plays Kurwenal.

Master classes and competitions

On Sunday, June 3, Marianna Shirinyan, together with Håvard Gimse and Leif Ove Andsnes will give a masterclass at the Jiri Hlinka Academy in Bergen, Norway.
The application deadline for the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition ends on May 30. Double bass players still have the chance to apply for the Sperger competition until June 1. The application phase of the international chamber music competition "Salieri-Zinetti" will end shortly after. Registration can be submitted here until June 4.
